Leonie Smith was a presenter of Jazz @ 5 on fm99.3 on fridays from March 2005 till Dec 2008. Originally co-hosting with John Morrison the famous band leader of popular big band “Swing City” (and brother of James Morrison world renown Trumpeter) who hosted the show for many years.
Leonie was the sole host up until end of 2008. she used the show to play her favourite Australian and Overseas Jazz Artists. Due to her professional status as a local Jazz Vocalist she used her inside knowledge into the Australian Jazz industry to attract many otherwise unheard of jazz vocalists and musicians on her show. Here are some great interviews of some of the musicians she featured on Jazz @ 5. Sadly after many many years of FM99.3 being known as a Rhythm and Blues/Jazz Station it has now gone middle of the road, and Jazz Soul and Blues is no longer its focus. Which culminated with the axing of Jazz @ 5 after many many years of broadcasting. Update, FM99.3 has gone to the wall...how sad.
Leonie now interviews musicians of all genre’s on Tonight Live as her alter ego Paisley Beebe. There are over 100 of her interviews with Musicians on iTunes and broadcast on Treet.tv she also produces a TV show on the internet called “Live n Kickin” which features musicians from all over the globe in 1/2 hour live concerts hosted in the virtual world of Second Life
